SUNO GIVES THE TOP CONFERENCE TEAM (TALLADEGA) THE FIRST CONFERENCE LOSS OF THE SEASON!!!

The Knights returned home Monday night for their first game in The Castle since December 16. They supremely defended their territory - handing the GCAC's top-ranked team, Talladega, its first conference loss of the season. The Knights' fourth consecutive win (all in conference play) moves them to fifth place in conference standings.

The teams went back and forth all night, exchanging leads and momentum. But momentum shifted in the Knights' direction as Taj Gilyot nailed a near halfcourt shot to end the first half to pull the Knights to within six heading into intermission (29-35). The second half was electrifying. SUNO's presence in the paint caused key turnovers and forced the Tornadoes to take shots they usually would not. The Knights' big three, Devin Daniels, Jamal Gibson, and Isaiah Lewis, frustrated Talladega's offense as the three combined for 37 points, 29 rebounds, and four blocks.

Gibson, named GCAC Player and Newcomer of the Week for the 8th time this season heading into Monday's game, notched his 22nd double-double, further etching his mark in the Knights' history book.

"I'm so proud of these guys," said Men's Basketball Head Coach James Matthews.

"They believed in the process and stayed with it, so I am happy for them that they're seeing this type of success."

Rebuilding a program takes grit, determination, and the confidence to never give up - and it is evident that the Knights have the mentality to build a winning culture again at SUNO.

Thursday, February 1, and at Rust on Saturday, February 2.
