GCAC 2013 Coach of the Year

Coach Washington enters her fifth season as head coach of the Lady Knights.  She brought championship and global experience to the program. Taking over only two days before her first match in 2010, she turned a team that had gone 1-18 in 2009 into a 10-13 team which came within a match of winning the 2010 GCAC title.  Last season, she led SUNO to a 16-13 record.

Coach Washington enjoyed a productive career at Long Beach State as a member of the 49er women’s volleyball team, a perennial powerhouse in NCAA women’s volleyball. In her senior season Long Beach State finished 22-9 and atop the Big West at 12-4 earning them an automatic bid to the NCAA Volleyball Tournament. Washington left as a two-time AVCA All-American and two-time All-Big West selection. She led the 49ers in kills and kill average as a senior.

She played for Team USA and also enjoyed a professional volleyball career in Spain as well as in Azerbaijan. A native of New Orleans, she graduated from Long Beach State with a bachelor’s degree in Interpersonal & Organizational Communications with a minor in Africana Studies.
