Miss SUNO 2013-2014 Ja’Van Michelle Cobb
Ja’Van Michelle Cobb, a 24-year-old native of Woodbridge, Va., is the daughter of Jerry and Lisa A. Cobb, the granddaughter of the late Conward and Icelean Cobb (paternal grandparents), and Rosetta Arcenaux and the late Wellmond Arcenaux Jr. (maternal grandparents). Miss Cobb also has an older sister, Jessica Monique Cobb, who is a nursing student.
Miss Cobb is a Child Development and Family Studies major. Upon graduation in May, she plans to attend graduate school at the University of Texas at Tyler to pursue her master’s degree in Business Entrepreneurship. Her ultimate goal is to open her own daycare center to help meet the needs that face our communities.
Coming from the east coast, Miss Cobb adapted to the SUNO culture and became active early on. She joined many clubs and volunteered on and off campus. The organizations in which she actively has been involved include: The First-Fifty Knights (member), SPECA (member), Honda All-Star (member), and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. — Epsilon Chi Chapter (President). As a graduating senior, Miss Cobb knows how important the social aspect of college life is, but also fully understands that her first priority is to maintain good academic standing. She has continued to maintain a 3.0 or higher grade point average and to be listed on the Honor Roll and/or Dean’s List each semester.
Miss Cobb showed the skills and qualities of a true leader at an early age, knowing and trusting that God put in her everything she needs to succeed. At SUNO, Miss Cobb put her leadership skills to work and remains humble and ready to serve her university. Children have been a passion for her. Serving as a youth group leader at her childhood church, Word of Life Church International in Woodbridge, Va., she was able to work and help to guide the youth in a positive direction. She also was a member of the praise team, youth ensemble, praise dance team, and the drama ministry. As a member of Come Into The Light Ministries in New Orleans, Miss Cobb participates on the praise team and is active with the youth ministry. In all of her efforts, she knows the importance of every life she touches and does her best to do so with great humility and by showing the love of Christ.
Miss Cobb’s favorite scripture is Proverbs 3:5-6: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight. Therefore, with God, she can and will accomplish all the goals He has in store for her.
