Student Activities and Organizations

The 63rd Miss Southern University at New Orleans is Ms. Daryelle Deshonah Mitchell. Ms. Mitchell is a graduating senior, majoring in Biology with an overall grade point average of 3.4. She is from New Orleans, Louisiana. Throughout her tenure at Southern University at New Orleans, Ms. Mitchell has served in the Student Ambassador Club, assisting with the new student orientation. In addition, Ms. Mitchell has been a part of the TRiO program, SUNO’s Health Club, and this summer, she completed an internship conducting research with LaSPACE.
Upon completion of graduation, she plans on furthering her education in a pre-veterinary program. Her hobbies are baking, cooking, and shopping. Ms. Mitchell’s favorite quote is “It is not where you came from but it’s where you are going that counts.” Ella Fitzgerald
This year, Miss SUNO’s platform is "Bringing Awareness to Mental Health by shattering the myths that hurt us"(African Americans) Black Mental Health: 3 Myths That Hurt Us. There is a belief African Americans are strong and can handle stress on their own. After reading, such a sad, social media post by one of our fellow Southern University students, 19-year-old cheerleader Arlana Miller, I wanted to focus on programs and activities that will help to destress and support any and every student here at SUNO.
