Out of State Waiver Information

Knight Out-of-State Fee Waiver

Southern University at New Orleans intends to fully pursue the University's mission by strongly supporting its efforts of providing a high quality global educational experience to its students.

A full out-of-state fee waiver will be granted to any qualified incoming freshman who graduated from a high school from any state in the USA or new Transfer student, who meets the following criteria:

Minimum high school or transfer GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 Scale

Any student who wishes to continue receiving the out-of state fee waiver beyond the initial academic year, which the waiver is awarded:

Must retain a full-time student status with a minimum of 15 hours completed per semester or 30 hours completed per academic year (Fall and Spring ONLY)
Maintain a cumulative minimum 3.0 GPA

Fee waivers cover Fall and Spring semesters only and can be retained for up to eight (8) semesters total.Note: Fee waivers are applied directly to qualified students banner accounts prior to the start of the admitted term after final transcripts are recieved and processed.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

In the event a student fails to meet the criteria during any of the 8 semesters, the OSFW will be removed from the student account with no option to appeal. Once the student loses the OSFW they are responsible for out-of-state fees moving forward.

Note: The following categories of students are not eligible for the waiver. Graduate students; other students who have already earned a bachelor’s degree; international students; and currently enrolled out-of-state students who enrolled prior to the effective date of the updated policy (Spring 2024).
