Professor Alston has over 18 years of experience as a social work practitioner, planner, consultant, and academician.  She has served as a consultant for Louisiana State Head Start Programs in the areas of staff development; community needs assessment training, and family partnership involvement.  She has served on the Mayors Advisory Committee on Aging, and has presented a number of workshops on elderly and mid-life issues.
