MISSION STATEMENT

The mission statement of Southern University at New Orleans Center for African and African American Studies succinctly states the scope of its mandate. The Center has a primary mission of serving, facilitating and stimulating the instructional, educational, research and intellectual interest of faculty and students in matters dealing with Africa and the African Diaspora. In addition, the Center carries out meaningful outreach programs to Louisiana community and the nation in order to enhance public knowledge and understanding of black issues relating to business, politics, economics, culture and the arts. By promoting growth in learning about Africans and African Americans, the Center provides essential critical context for understanding diversity in the United States and the world.
